Happy Coach Jim Boeheim Day

In 2002, former Mayor Matt Driscoll proclaimed February 24th Coach Jim Boeheim Day in the City of Syracuse. This honor was bestowed upon Coach Boeheim in conjunction with Syracuse University branding its Carrier Dome basketball court as Jim Boeheim Court. Mayor Driscoll stated that the success the team had achieved in Boeheim’s then 26 seasons, “Certainly had a positive economic and social impact upon the City of Syracuse.”

That evening, Syracuse lost to Georgetown 75-69 in front of the home crowd. Following the game, forward Hakim Warrick of Syracuse stated, “You can’t lose a game like this. They’re naming the court after him. They announce it’s Jim Boeheim Day. I feel like we let everyone down today.”
