Pictured is 434 Whittier Avenue, former home of Genevieve Quigley Dawson. Genevieve was a lifelong resident of Syracuse; born in 1896, she graduated from Central High School and attended D’Youville College in Buffalo New York. In 1917, she married Harold Dawson of the Dawson Brothers Construction Company. The couple had four daughters, often spending family weekends at their cottage on Otiso Lake. Genevieve was known for her active lifestyle, volunteering with organizations such as the American Red Cross, Professional Engineer’s Wives, Sigma Chi Auxiliary, St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary and Christian Brothers Academy. Genevieve hosted many events in this very house, opening up her doors to family, friends and the community. You can see a picture of Genevieve at the foot of the tree. She passed away in 1965 at the age of 68.
